Unemployed Due to June Tornadoes? Application Deadline for Disaster Unemployment Approaching

SUMMARY: Residents of Jackson and Jasper counties in Mississippi may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) due to inability to work caused by severe storms and tornadoes from June 14-19. DUA is funded by federal government but run by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. Eligible reasons include injury, obstruction from reaching place of employment, and destruction of business. Applications must be submitted by September 15.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
