Outdoor Adventures with Chelsea: Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery
SUMMARY: The Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery in Yalobusha County, established in 2006, focuses on raising sport fish and helping species in need of assistance. All fish raised at the hatchery are returned to public waters. Emily Wiggins, the director of the visitor education center, enjoys teaching children about fish and the outdoors. The education center features an aquarium with native Mississippi fish, and visitors can observe feeding time for the catfish and other fish. The hatchery also offers educational events, including a youth fishing rodeo on May 17th. Fish are carefully raised, from fry to fingerlings, before being stocked into ponds.

SUMMARY: At the Southern Miss softball complex, Day 3 of the state championships featured intense games. In the 1A series, Myrtle edged Stringer 4-3 after a tense finish involving an interference call. Myrtle led early, but Stringer fought back with key runs. In the 4A championship, Perivis faced Iaw Womba. Perivis led 2-0, but Iaw Womba rallied with big hits from Skyler Partllo and Abby Robertson to win 6-2. The 2A series saw East Union dominate Pisgga with a 10-0 run rule victory, positioning East Union to potentially sweep the series tomorrow. Excitement continues to build in the state playoffs.
More local softball teams began their championship series on Thursday, May 15.
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) and city leaders inspected Chapel Ridge Apartments in Jackson due to poor living conditions and trash overflow. City Councilman Vernon Hartley is advocating for an emergency declaration to use city and state resources to address the issues. The apartments, considered private property, limit the city’s ability to intervene fully. Hartley hopes declaring it a public health hazard will enable cleanup efforts, such as providing dumpsters. The trash problem has persisted for almost a month, and a motion for a potential cleanup process will be introduced at the next city council meeting.
