SUMMARY: Dr. Ailean Stingley, a healthcare professional with a doctorate in oral medicine, is running for the vacant Mississippi House of Representatives seat for District 72. She wants to be the voice for pushing Medicaid expansion to ensure health coverage for all Mississippians, as there are currently 220,000 without coverage in the state. Dr. Stingley believes that Mississippi can do better in areas such as safe drinking water, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. She is ready to serve and collaborate with colleagues across the aisle, citing her temperament, experience, and professional training. The seat became vacant when Representative Debra Gibbs was elected as a Hinds County Circuit Judge in November 2022.

Belhaven softball earns invite into NCAA Tournament
SUMMARY: Belhaven University's softball team received a bid for the national tournament after a dominant year in Mississippi. The Blazers, ranked 19th nationally, will travel to Saint Louis for the WASU Regional and face off against Grinnell. Despite a disappointing loss in their conference tournament final, the team is determined to make a big run in the College World Series after falling short in the Super Regionals last year. The players are focused and have a strong work ethic, ready to compete and have fun while aiming to achieve their goals. They are eager to bounce back and make the most of this opportunity.
The fourth year in a row the Belhaven softball team is going to the Division III NCAA Tournament. The new goal is to make it out of the Super Regionals but first they'll need handle business in the Wash-U Regional this week. The Blazers open with Grinnell on Thursday.

Sumrall community clearning up after storm
SUMMARY: A severe storm in a rural area caused damage to trees, homes, and cars. Lena Russell and her family were awakened by what felt like a tornado hitting their home, with trees falling and debris flying around. Despite the destruction, their livestock animals were unharmed. Russell and her son are working to clean up the fallen trees on their property, including dangerous cherry trees that are harmful to livestock. Russell, a bus driver for Lamar County Schools, had to cancel her route due to unsafe road conditions. Neighbors were also affected by the storm, including one family who were in a camper when it hit.
Lena Russell said once the storm got bad, she and her kids rushed to their hallway for safety, as trees were ripped up from their roots and tossed to the side.
