Pine Belt storm coverage
SUMMARY: There were several damage reports from an area due to the severe weather, including flooded roads, fallen power lines, and trees. Bay Springs was reported to have a flooded intersection at Highway 18 and Highway 15. Additionally, in Rawls Springs, there was a lot of debris and fallen trees. Neighbors in the Pine Belt area were quick to help clean up. There was also a report of a fallen tree in Hattiesburg that caused major damage to a fence, but thankfully there were no injuries. Power has been restored to the area. Overall, caution should be exercised when driving due to flooded roads and debris.
Heavy rain, hail and multiple tornado warnings scattered debris along the roads, and several areas lost power due to damages from the storm.

Three area teams punch ticket to state baseball finals
SUMMARY: Three teams from our area had a strong start in the state baseball semifinals, with the opportunity to clinch state final births in game twos. Brandon, Warren Central, and St. Andrews all secured victories to advance. Brandon defeated Northwest Rankin, led by strong pitching from a Southern Miss commit. Warren Central won against Center Hill, highlighted by a game-clinching no-hitter. St. Andrews made quick work of Clarksdale, sweeping the series with a 6-0 victory. All three teams are now competing for the state championship, with Brandon looking to win for the first time since 1967.

Suspect turns himself in after escaping police custody
SUMMARY: Tarvin had a warrant for shooting into an occupied vehicle. A man who escaped custody after an apartment shooting turned himself in. The shooting happened at Pine Ridge Garden Apartments, injuring an 18-year-old who is now recovering. Amen Olu-Bala, 25, was taken into custody and faces charges of aggravated assault, shooting an occupied dwelling, and escape. The Hinds County Sheriff's Office reported the incident, where Olu-Bala escaped while being transported for questioning. He surrendered himself to authorities and is now in custody facing multiple charges related to the shooting incident.

Severe storm aftermath
SUMMARY: During a recent storm, an elderly couple, Robert and Faye Hoyt, narrowly escaped death when large trees fell through their home. Their alarm system went off, and they managed to escape with only a few belongings before their house was destroyed. They were unable to get through to 911 and had to rely on their children for help. The couple is now staying with family while their home is inspected for repairs, unsure if it can be salvaged. Despite the devastation, the Hoyts feel blessed to be alive after the harrowing experience caused by the storm.
