C2 Absentee Voting Numbers
SUMMARY: Election officials in Hinds County, Mississippi have reported a lack of voter interest in the primary season, despite competitive races on the ballot. The number of absentee ballots cast in Hinds County has decreased compared to the last state party primary, with only 429 people voting absentee so far. Circuit Clerk Zach Wallace believes there is less voter interest this year, despite multiple challengers for the Board of Supervisors and Sheriff Tyree Jones facing a familiar opponent. Some voters are choosing to wait for Election Day instead of casting an absentee ballot, as Mississippi does not have true early voting.

Glade Elementary PTO raising funds to upgrade school grounds
SUMMARY: Jones County Elementary School's PTO is working hard to beautify the campus with new equipment. Fundraisers have been held to install new picnic tables, benches, swings, and paint over the summer. The group is also looking to purchase a new digital sign for the front of the campus, with a goal of reaching $20,000 for these projects. All funds raised by the PTO are reinvested into the school for the benefit of the children, providing incentives, rewards, and other support as needed. The PTO aims to complete these purchases by the next school year and encourages community involvement through their website.

Cameras capturing hundreds speeding through school zones
SUMMARY: Hattisburg Police Department has introduced handheld radar cameras in school zones to catch speeding drivers. Crossing guards and officers have noticed some change, but many drivers are still not slowing down. Over 400 speeding violations have been recorded in the first two weeks of the pilot program, with some drivers going well over the 50 mph speed limit. Despite plea from officers to slow down and be mindful of crossing guards and children, some drivers continue to speed. The pilot program will continue throughout the school year, with plans to implement the technology in all school zones next year if successful.
