Singing River Health System makes payment processing change in response to major cyberattack
SUMMARY: The Singing River Health System in Mississippi is altering its payment process due to a cyberattack on Change Healthcare, their payment processor owned by UnitedHealth Group. After the breach in February, Change Healthcare announced an immediate halt to processing payments for Singing River and other clients. Unprocessed payments are being returned to patients. Change Healthcare processes over 15 billion transactions yearly and has already distributed $3.3 billion to help affected healthcare providers. Singing River advises patients to use the MySingingRiver online portal or other provided methods for future payments, following a previous cyber incident at the hospital itself.

Independent autopsy granted for body of Dau Mabil as questions in disappearance remain
SUMMARY: Following Dau Mabil's mysterious death, a Hinds County judge ruled on his body's handling amidst a lawsuit between his widow, Karissa Bowley, and brother, Bul Mabil. Judge Dewayne Thomas granted Bowley's request to replace Bul as the plaintiff, acknowledging her next of kin status despite their separation at Mabil's disappearance. Thomas also permitted an independent autopsy directed and funded by Bul, who doubts the investigation's thoroughness. Mabil's body is with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) pending their autopsy. Statewide attention has led Bowley to agree to publicly share the autopsy findings. Mabil, a Sudanese immigrant, vanished on March 25 and was found deceased in the Pearl River.

Driver’s education set to become mandatory in Mississippi as bill passes
SUMMARY: Mississippi has passed Senate Bill 2695, making driver's education a mandatory course in public high schools. Authored by Republican Dennis DeBar, the bill received unanimous support from both chambers and awaits Governor Tate Reeves' approval. Prompted by high teen-driving fatalities in the state, officials emphasize the importance of teaching students additional road safety. Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, the courses will cover classroom learning and hands-on driving experience. Although a state-issued learner's permit isn't required for participation, it is recommended, allowing students as young as 14 to engage. The legislation also considers the budget impact on smaller school districts.
