Vicksburg police officer who spent days in freezer, weeks in dumpster to prevent crime passes away
SUMMARY: Doug Arp, a longtime Mississippi police officer and advocate for crime prevention, has passed away. Arp gained attention for his unconventional methods of promoting a crime-free society, such as living in a police cruiser suspended 60 feet in the air and spending four days in a commercial icebox. He also dedicated his time to honoring fallen officers by placing markers on their graves and advocating for their inclusion in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Arp's funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.

Can Kiffin turn the tide and achieve first win against Saban on Saturday?
SUMMARY: Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is hoping to secure his first victory over his former boss, Nick Saban, as the Rebels prepare to face Alabama. Kiffin has previously lost all three matchups against Saban since taking over as head coach at Ole Miss. However, last season, Ole Miss came close to defeating Alabama, demonstrating promise and competitiveness. This year, Kiffin is relieved that former Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young is no longer on the Alabama roster. The game will be a challenge for Alabama's starting signal caller, Jalen Milroe, who will face a defense led by former Saban assistant Pete Golding.

Mississippi Hospital Association parts ways with president Tim Moore
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) has removed its president, Tim Moore, following the departure of several hospitals from the organization. Moore confirmed that his last day on the job is September 22. The decision to oust Moore comes after eight hospitals and health systems decided to withdraw their memberships from the MHA. The withdrawals followed a $250,000 donation to a political action committee associated with the MHA, which supported a Democratic gubernatorial candidate who advocated for expanded Medicaid. Kim Hoover will replace Moore as president and CEO of the MHA.

Debate between Reeves and Presley on the horizon as general election nears
SUMMARY: Incumbent Republican Tate Reeves, current governor of Mississippi, has agreed to debate Democratic challenger Brandon Presley ahead of the upcoming election. The decision comes after Presley challenged Reeves to five debates, accusing him of involvement in a public fraud scheme. Reeves responded by stating that he is not afraid to face the people of Mississippi and looks forward to defending his record against Presley, whom he considers to be a dishonest politician. No debate has been scheduled yet, but discussions between the two parties are ongoing. The general election takes place on November 7.
