Sen. Wicker calls for immigration reform in aid bill
SUMMARY: Senate Republicans are holding out for a deal with the White House that boosts security to the southern border, halting possible aid for Ukraine and Israel until strong immigration reform is implemented. President Biden's proposal includes over $110 billion, with $61 billion set aside for Ukraine. Senator Roger Wicker believes a holistic deal can be made that supports Ukraine, Israel, and immigration reform. The bill would need to get through the Democratic-controlled Senate and the House, where Republicans have opposed more aid for Ukraine, as well as require President Biden's signature. Republicans are using their leverage to ensure the protection of their own borders.
