Time running out for Mississippi lawmakers to pass Medicaid expansion bill
SUMMARY: State lawmakers in Mississippi are set to vote on a compromise measure to expand Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of residents. The bill would cover individuals up to 138% of the federal poverty level and includes a 25-hour weekly work requirement. There is debate over whether the federal government will approve this requirement, with Democrats questioning its necessity. If the work requirement is denied, the state will have to reapply annually. Lawmakers have until Wednesday to approve, reject, or amend the bill, with Republicans expressing confidence that a future Trump administration would approve it. The main disagreement has been over the work requirement, with uncertainty surrounding the bill's fate.
