Teen charged in death of 14-year-old in Jackson appears in court
SUMMARY: A teenager, John Foote, has been charged with murder for the shooting death of 14-year-old Cameron Horne-Crook in Jackson, Mississippi. During a preliminary hearing, Foote was denied bond. Two other teenagers, Maxle Mooneyham and Siyaski Crawford, were also arrested in connection to the shooting. Mooneyham was charged with tampering with evidence and Crawford with accessory to murder. Crawford admitted to moving the victim's body after the shooting. Additionally, Cameron Horne-Crook's brother, Bryson Horne, was also killed in a separate shooting incident in the area.

Woman sentenced for embezzling from Brandon High band booster funds
SUMMARY: Donna Gladney Floyd from Rankin County, Mississippi, was sentenced to 20 years in the custody of the MDOC after pleading guilty to embezzling $45,000 from the Brandon High School band booster funds. She will serve five years in prison followed by five years of probation, and has been ordered to pay court costs, restitution, and investigative fees. Floyd was scheduled to go to trial in 2024 but pled guilty in April 2024. Her arrest in 2023 followed an investigation prompted by the Rankin County School District and Brandon High School officials.

Margaret Richards named Jackson State head women’s basketball coach
SUMMARY: Margaret Richards has been named the new head coach of Jackson State University's women's basketball program. Previously at Mercer and Alabama A&M, Richards has a successful history in the SWAC. She replaces Tomekia Reed, who left to coach at Charlotte. Richards is excited to lead a program that has been at the top of the conference for the last five years. She is grateful for the opportunity and looks forward to working with the team and the Jackson State community. A news conference will be held on May 6 to announce her new role.
