Mississippi to receive $2.9 million over ad agency Publicis Health’s role in opioid crisis
SUMMARY: Mississippi is poised to receive $2.9 million from a $350 million national settlement with ad agency Publicis Health, which is implicated in the prescription opioid crisis. Publicis Health marketed opioids for companies like Purdue Pharma, employing strategies based on recorded patient-provider health discussions to sell products such as OxyContin. Since 1999, opioids have claimed one million lives. Mississippi's Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the settlement as an effort to hold accountable those who contributed to the devastation of communities and families. As part of the resolution, Publicis Health will reveal internal documents and cease marketing opioid-based Schedule II narcotics.

Senate neglects to reconfirm Bentz as wildlife commissioner amid illegal hunting investigation
SUMMARY: Leonard Bentz, Jr. will not return as a Mississippi Wildlife Commissioner after he faced criticism for illegally hunting turkeys in Holmes County. The legislative session ended without Governor Tate Reeves nominating Bentz for reappointment. Despite Bentz's assertion of ignorance regarding the illegal baiting with crickets on the property, his citation added to previous concerns from outdoors enthusiasts questioning his qualifications, particularly concerning chronic wasting disease policies. Bentz, who formerly served as a public service commissioner, was appointed to the wildlife commission by Reeves but is no longer listed as a commissioner on the MDWFP website.
