Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice recused from HB 1020 lawsuit
SUMMARY: Mississippi's Supreme Court Chief Justice, Michael Randolph, has recused himself from an appeal in a lawsuit involving House Bill 1020. The lawsuit aims to prevent the bill from creating an appointed court system in Mississippi's capital city and expanding the jurisdiction of Capitol Police. On May 15, a judge ruled that the bill did not violate the state constitution. Randolph has also been dismissed from another lawsuit filed by the NAACP that is seeking to prevent the bill from going into effect. The next hearing in the Mississippi Supreme Court is set for July 6.

Security measures, like encryption and recording signature timestamps, are mandated to ensure authenticity. Upon the governor's approval, the law will take effect on July 1.
