In this episode of Mississippi Stories, Mississippi Editor-At-Large Marshall Ramsey sits down with Sandra Shelson, head of The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi. Shelson, who grew up in , began her career as a lawyer but transitioned from traditional to prevention efforts to kids.

The Partnership has been a national leader in tobacco prevention since its inception in 1998, developing interactive educational and programs for youth and adults that focus on long-term behavioral and cultural change. Twenty years after the settlement, tobacco prevalence among middle and high school has dropped significantly. Lessons learned from tobacco prevention are now being applied to the childhood obesity epidemic in Mississippi, as they continue to work with their partners to improve outcomes for all .

One injured in Mississippi officer-involved shooting after chase
