Mississippi lt. governor candidates discuss tax cuts
SUMMARY: The Republican candidates for Lieutenant Governor in Mississippi are focused on cutting taxes. Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann wants to gradually decrease the income tax rate, while Senator Chris McDaniel is prepared to eliminate the income tax and grocery tax immediately if elected. Tiffany Longino has a different approach and is in favor of cutting taxes only if the state accepts the expansion of Medicaid. Hosemann also supports reducing the grocery tax. Mississippi's current income tax rate is 5%, but legislation passed in 2020 will bring it down to 4% by 2026. McDaniel believes that eliminating taxes will increase productivity and fairness.
