Medgar Evers Boulevard could soon see major renovations
SUMMARY: The Jackson community gathered to express their desired changes for Medgar Evers Boulevard, which has been in bad disrepair. The proposal made by Jackson to the federal government was granted, receiving $20 million for the Medgar Evers Project. The main purpose of the project is to improve roads, street lights, and more, with a focus on making the area safer for residents and visitors. Business owners stressed the importance of keeping the area clean and safe for children, as well as receiving fair treatment compared to other neighborhoods in the state. The planning department aims to address code violations and empower the community for a better future. Councilman Kenneth Stokes hopes to see the project completed by early 2025, with the area renovated similarly to Memphis.
