Lynyrd Skynyrd merch company cracks down on bootleggers in Biloxi
SUMMARY: After the Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top concert in Biloxi, officials at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum revealed a significant merchandise scam involving over 200 counterfeit t-shirts. The scam was part of ongoing bootlegging issues that the band's merchandise manager had previously noted at other tour locations. The coliseum's director, Matt McDonell, emphasized the financial harm caused to the band, venue, sellers, and state revenue, as well as to customers who unknowingly purchased inferior, unlicensed products. There's a wider trend of rising counterfeit concert merchandise, as seen with Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, where fake items are sold significantly cheaper than official merchandise. The Biloxi incident may curb the distribution of counterfeit goods at future Skynyrd tour dates.

Mississippi casinos see slight revenue increase in first quarter of 2024
SUMMARY: In 2024, Mississippi casinos saw a revenue increase to $622.1 million, up from the previous quarter but down 2% year-over-year. The American Gaming Association reported a national record of $17.67 billion in gaming revenue. Slot machines and table games had modest growth, hindered by January weather. An all-time monthly revenue record was set in March. The report suggests that mobile sports betting could have boosted Mississippi's earnings, as it did nationally with a 22% annual increase to $3.33 billion. Mississippi had rejected mobile sports betting legislation, but lawmakers are considering revisiting the topic in 2025.
