Local entrepreneur and cancer survivor gives back to those who need it
SUMMARY: Zack Rushing, a cancer survivor and local entrepreneur, is spreading hope by organizing a large toy donation to children in a hospital in Mobile. He first partnered with a pawn shop owner to give toys to kids in need three years ago. Rushing and his team raise funds to provide for the children, creating immeasurable joy on Christmas morning. Together with the hospital staff, they create a Santa's Workshop room where children can choose their toys. Rushing wants these kids to know they are not alone and can get through their illness. He says it brings him great joy to see the smiles on the children's faces on Christmas morning.

SUMMARY: The Gulf Coast Swim Association celebrated its 50th anniversary with Coach Dana Abbott and original swimmers. One of them, 96-year-old Rose Mary Collins, still swims daily. SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi Graduate School's Susan A. Siltanen Graduate Student Research Symposium showcased the research of over 70 graduate students on April 18 at the Hattiesburg campus. The symposium featured oral and poster presentations, highlighting innovative scholarship by students. Winners were announced for oral presentations in categories such as Arts and Humanities, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Social and Educational Sciences and Business, and Life, Health, and Environmental Sciences. Additionally, awards were given for Mentor of the Year, Research Assistant of the Year, and Teaching Assistant of the Year. The event aimed to provide a platform for students to present their research in a supportive environment.
