One in custody after 18-year-old shot at Jackson apartment complex
SUMMARY: An 18-year-old was shot in the upper body at a Jackson apartment complex and taken to the hospital for treatment. The incident occurred at Pine Ridge Gardens Apartments on Rebel Woods Drive on May 10. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones confirmed that the victim's condition is currently unknown. A person of interest has been detained and anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Hinds County Sheriff's Office at 601-352-1521.

Mississippi governor requests FEMA assistance for 6 counties after April storms

Former Mississippi police officer, wife charged in death of child
SUMMARY: Former West Point police officer Donovan Jeffers and his wife Quiyona Pederson have been charged with murder in connection to the death of their four-month-old child. The couple brought the infant to the hospital with head and neck injuries in November 2022, and the State Medical Examiner's Office determined the injuries were a result of abuse. Arrest warrants were issued, but the couple fled the state and were arrested in West Virginia in April 2024. They have since been booked into the Clay County Detention Center and each received a $300,000 bond.
