Ingalls Shipbuilding christens amphibious assault ship
SUMMARY: HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding has christened the third America-class amphibious assault ship, Bougainville (LHA 8), which honors the successful WWII Bougainville campaign. The ship was launched into the Pascagoula River following its transfer to a dry dock. Ingalls' President highlighted the collaboration between the Navy and Marine Corps, while Major Gen. Adams recognized the historical legacy. Mrs. Ellyn Dunford, wife of Gen. Joe Dunford Jr., officially christened the ship. Bougainville joins the America-class fleet, designed for expeditionary strike groups, with the next ship, Fallujah (LHA 9), already under construction.

Speaker, lieutenant governor disagree on sending Medicaid expansion to the ballot
SUMMARY: Mississippi lawmakers are conflicted over Medicaid expansion. House Speaker Jason White proposed a ballot referendum, letting voters decide, but the Senate, influenced by Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, rejected the idea. The House previously favored expanding Medicaid to 138% of the federal poverty level without relying on a work requirement waiver from CMS. In contrast, the Senate's plan required a strict work requirement, later adjusting closer to the House's position but still insisting on work criteria. Discussions remain deadlocked, with no bill moving forward without a work requirement. Governor Tate Reeves criticized the referendum approach, highlighting the inability to reestablish a ballot initiative process.

SUMMARY: The Reed Green Coliseum at Southern Miss, operating since 1965, is set for a major $35 million renovation starting in May, with completion expected by early 2025. Athletics Director Jeremy McClain has announced upgrades including a new dome, roof, lobby with ticketing and fan shop, renovated concessions, new practice facility, and enhanced scoreboard. A new club lounge with concessions and restrooms will enhance the game day experience, along with other amenities like a new entry, premium seats, loading dock, pedestrian plaza, and scoreboards. The project, approved by Mississippi's Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees, follows a 1% sales tax voted in by residents in 2019. Despite renovations, the USM basketball teams will continue playing in the facility.
