How to properly use nasal spray
SUMMARY: Allergy season is causing many people to suffer from nasal congestion. While nasal spray can provide relief, long-term use of some sprays can lead to nasal damage. Dr. Timothy Quinn recommends using a combination of topical steroid nasal spray, antihistamine nasal spray, and oral antihistamines like Zyrtec or Claritin to alleviate congestion and symptoms caused by allergies. He warns against becoming addicted to nasal sprays, particularly Afrin, which can lead to rebound inflammation and discomfort. Regular use of antihistamines is recommended by specialists, with options like Zyrtec and Claritin being less likely to cause drowsiness. Addressing allergies is important during allergy season to prevent discomfort.
