Health Corner: Brain Injury Awareness with Dr. Lee Voulters
SUMMARY: Today's health corner on Wox is focusing on brain injury awareness. Approximately 2.87 million Americans suffer from traumatic brain injuries and strokes each year. Dr. Lee Volter from Memorial Health System discusses the two categories of brain injury: traumatic and strokes. Traumatic brain injuries can result from falls or accidents like football injuries, while strokes can be caused by blockages or ruptured blood vessels in the brain. Risk factors for strokes include high blood pressure and family history of aneurysms. Recognizing symptoms like altered consciousness, memory loss, and nausea can help in seeking timely medical help for stroke victims.
Each year, approximately 2.87 million Americans suffer from traumatic brain injuries, and strokes alone affect about 795,000 people.
