Happening January 19: Special Education Boot Camp in Harrison County
SUMMARY: The Harrison County Advocacy Center is hosting a special education bootcamp, where people can learn about the Mississippi Parent Training and Information Centers Project for the Mississippi Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities. Junie Aaron, the executive director of the Advocacy Center, discusses the event and the organization's mission to provide training, information, and support to parents of children with disabilities. The organization also lobbies for changes and advocates for the expansion of the Home and Community Based Medicaid Waiver to provide services in the home. The bootcamp will take place at 47 Maples Driving Golf Court on the upcoming Friday.
Joining to discuss the event is Pam Dollar and Jeannie Herrin.

MGCCC graduates receive diploma during 2024 Spring Commencement
SUMMARY: Today, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is honoring its graduates at the 2024 spring commencement ceremony at the coast coliseum. Students from Harrison Jackson and Perkinston campuses are walking the stage to receive their degrees and certifications. Brandon Elliott of Elliott Homes is the guest speaker at the event, with over 1,200 students participating. The graduates have worked hard and dedicated themselves to their educational goals, with Dr. Graham handing out the degrees. One student is excited to receive their associate's degree while still in high school, in order to pursue a four-year college and a master's degree in a shorter time frame. Congratulations to all the 2024 graduating classes on their achievements.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Hancock @ George County (5/9/2024) [6A Playoffs, South State]
SUMMARY: Hancock and George County face off in a close game, with Hancock coming out on top 3-2 in the first of 68 South State series. The game was tied at two in the third inning, with both teams showing strong pitching. Freshman Payton Cins stood out with numerous strikeouts for Hancock. George County, with no juniors and only one senior, relied on younger players to compete. In the fifth inning, Hancock scored the winning run with Blakeley Slay crossing the plate. The game was a reminder of the skill and determination of both teams, with Hancock ultimately securing the victory.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Vancleave @ East Central (5/9/2024) [5A Playoffs, South State]
SUMMARY: Two softball teams from the region will be representing in the state championships next week in Hattisburg, with teams from the coast competing in the 5A and 6A classifications. In the 5A matchup, Van CLE will face off against East Central, with East Central taking an early lead in the first inning. Despite a comeback by Van CLE in the third inning, East Central ultimately secured a 3-2 victory in game one. The game was closely contested throughout, with both teams fighting hard for the win. East Central's win sets the stage for an exciting rematch in the next game of the series.
