Former Gulfport Mayor George Schloegel passed away early this morning.

SUMMARY: Former George Schloegel has passed away at the age of 83. Schloegel was a community leader who focused on improving Gulfport and communities across . He made his career at Hancock Bank and eventually became mayor of Gulfport from 2009 to 2013. Schloegel was known for his dedication to community service and instilling those values in his and employees. A funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. The exact date and time have not yet been set.

Schloegel was a community leader who focused on improving Gulfport and communities across South Mississippi.
