Former Gulfport Mayor George Schloegel passed away early this morning.
SUMMARY: Former Gulfport Mayor George Schloegel has passed away at the age of 83. Schloegel was a community leader who focused on improving Gulfport and communities across South Mississippi. He made his career at Hancock Bank and eventually became mayor of Gulfport from 2009 to 2013. Schloegel was known for his dedication to community service and instilling those values in his family and employees. A funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. The exact date and time have not yet been set.
Schloegel was a community leader who focused on improving Gulfport and communities across South Mississippi.

Congratulations to many of our Gulf Coast track and field stars who brought home State Championship
SUMMARY: Several high school athletes from the Mississippi Gulf Coast traveled to Pearl High School for the track state championships for classes 7A through 5A. Aon Edy from Diab Ville took home gold in discus and shotput, while another athlete, Josiah Rayford, placed first in the 300-meter hurdles. Ocean Springs Junior Carmella Culture and Senior Grady Westbrook also won in their respective events. George County's New Snite became a back-to-back state champion in long jump and a first-time champion in high jump. Laken Moore from the Maroon team and Sean Fairley from Christian Collegiate Academy also won in their events. Congratulations to all the athletes for their achievements.
