USM Presidential Luncheon
SUMMARY: Southern Mississippi's Gulf Park campus came together this afternoon to meet and mingle with University President Dr. Joseph Paul. Dr. Paul formerly worked at the Gulf Park campus for a number of years before becoming interim president in July last year. He began his service as the 11th president of Southern Miss in November. The campus community spoke with Gulf Park's student body president about their thoughts on Dr. Paul and his work ethic. They expressed that being able to connect directly with the university president makes them feel more connected to the university and a part of something greater. Dr. Paul's inauguration is happening tomorrow at the Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus and is open to the public.

Velocity Clinical Research highlights World Clinical Trial Day
SUMMARY: Velocity Clinical Research held a celebration in Gulfport for Global Clinical Trial Day, highlighting the life-saving impact of clinical trials, which have saved over 1 million lives. Parker Boyd spoke with patients, including Bobby Knockan, who emphasized the importance of clinical trials for her cardiac health. Knockan has benefitted significantly from participating in a trial at Velocity. The center was part of a major national trial that contributed to the FDA approval of an RSV vaccine for pregnant women. Popp's Ferry Road extension receives green light to move forward
SUMMARY: The Pops Ferry Road Extension project has received the green light to connect to Highway 90. After overcoming setbacks, the project, approved by state and federal agencies, is set to begin groundbreaking by mid-August. The $27 million project will pass through the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center, incorporating an underpass to ensure safe visitor access. The project, part of a strategy to enhance traffic flow, will designate Pops Ferry Road as a state road, making it eligible for federal funds. This could potentially aid in replacing the problematic drawbridge, linking Pops Ferry to two federal highways and opening opportunities for federal assistance.
