Federal assistance for severe storms not yet available for Jasper, Jackson Counties
SUMMARY: Federal assistance is not yet available for Jackson and Jasper Counties in Mississippi, which were hit by severe storms and tornadoes last month. Approximately 341 homes and businesses in Jackson County were damaged or destroyed, and over 18% of debris has been collected in Moss Point. One fatality and nearly two dozen injuries were reported in Jasper County, along with damage to an estimated 72 homes. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are currently assessing the damage and will begin assessing infrastructure damage in Jackson County. Residents are encouraged to file insurance claims and await further updates on federal assistance.

Pearl woman to spend 5 years in prison for embezzling from Brandon High School band
SUMMARY: Donna Gladney Floyd, a 42-year-old woman from Pearl, has been sentenced to five years in prison for embezzling over $45,000 from the Brandon High School Band booster program. Floyd pled guilty to the charges and will also serve five years of probation after her incarceration. In addition, she has been ordered to pay $42,105.84 in restitution, court costs, and investigative fees. The embezzlement case was brought to light by officials from the Rankin County School District and Brandon High School.

California man sentenced to life after bringing woman into Mississippi for human trafficking
SUMMARY: Michael Deon Fulcher, aged 54, will serve a life sentence for sex trafficking a woman across America into Mississippi, involving sexual assault, violence threats, and manipulation from April to June 2020. Fulcher lured the injured victim in Las Vegas, sexually assaulted her at his home, then worked with Jonzie Hamilton to force her into sex work. He imposed strict rules, took her earnings, and denied her medical care. The victim escaped in Mississippi. U.S. Attorney Todd Gee emphasized the seriousness of human trafficking. Hamilton awaits sentencing for involvement in the prostitution transportation.
