Columbus Police Department gets ready for new recruits
SUMMARY: The Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry is increasing his department's numbers by sending new recruits to the Jackson Police Training Academy to become certified officers. Training will include learning state laws, traffic laws, defensive tactics, driving, firearms, and report writing, and how to deal with the public. Recruits will also focus on team building and camaraderie. Prospective cadet William Henderson feels that giving back to the community is important. The department's retention contract encourages new officers to stay for three years before considering other agencies. The goal is to build the police department into a source of pride for the Golden Triangle area.
