Man honors distant relative with D-Day jump reenactment

SUMMARY: On June 6th, America commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal in World War II. A group of paratroopers, a former Sheriff's deputy Gerald Pek, reenacted the 1944 Airborne invasion in Normandy, France. Pek, an active duty paratrooper at Fort Moore, Georgia, honored his great-grandfather George Papovich, who fought and was wounded two days post-D-Day. This reenactment by and active soldiers aimed to preserve history and inspire the current generation about the Airborne Legacy. Unlike the perilous 1944 night jump, this was a peaceful, daytime event, culminating in a ceremony in a French village near Normandy.

Former Harrison County Sheriff's Deputy and active duty paratrooper Gerald Peck honored a relative who fought on D-Day with a reenactment in Normandy, France.
