One fatal crash reported during MHP’s New Year’s Holiday Period

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to one fatal crash during the New Year's Holiday Period, which began on Saturday, December 30, 2023, and concluded on Monday, January 1, 2024. The crash occurred on Highway 607 in Hancock County, resulting in the death of a Jackson woman. The crash involved a vehicle hitting a pedestrian who was walking in the middle of the highway. MHP issued a total of 4,865 citations, made 77 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 119 crashes during the enforcement period. This marks a decrease in citations, impaired driving arrests, and crashes compared to the previous year's New Year Holiday Totals.
