There's been a lot of debate about a Medicaid expansion bill that includes a work requirement for new recipients, similar to Georgia's. The work mandate was approved by Trump but revoked by Biden, leading Georgia to sue the federal government. Some believe this requirement could prevent the bill from getting needed federal support. HAPPENING WEDNESDAY: Biloxi Councilman Robert Deming pleads guilty to federal drug charge
SUMMARY: City councilman Robert Deming appeared in federal court and entered a guilty plea to a federal drug investigation involving the distribution of synthetic cannabinoids through his candy shops. The plea deal includes a sentence of 6 to 7 years and a potential fine. The investigation began in 2020 after complaints of health issues from the Vapes sold in Deming's stores. Deming was also charged with destruction of records in the investigation. While the guilty plea may affect his position as an elected official, Deming has not indicated any plans to resign. Deming will remain out on bond until August 13th when the judge will make a final decision.
According to court documents, he is accused of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute synthetic cannabinoids.
