Appeals court dismisses Jackson airport lawsuit
SUMMARY: The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority's lawsuit against a state takeover of the airport was deemed “moot” by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, as the original members of the board are no longer in position. The case will now return to the U.S. District Court. Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba stated that the decision did not impact the city negatively and that litigation will resume. The lawsuit was initiated in 2016 following the passing of Senate Bill 2162, aiming to dissolve JMAA and create a new nine-member commission. Currently, JMAA is governed by a five-member board chosen by the Jackson mayor.
