Columbus accepts S&S Landscaping bid to mow along Hwy 82
SUMMARY: The Columbus City Council voted to accept a bid of $99,000 from S&S Landscaping for grass-cutting chores along Highway 82. They began outsourcing the work last year after realizing the Department of Transportation would not reimburse them. The initial one-year contract with S&S at $75,000 was split with the county. This year's bid may be higher, but work will begin sooner. The council also amended its policy on using the Trotter Convention Center. Gaskin, a council member, expressed pride in the partnership with the county and the bid process. Overall, the council focused on cost-effective solutions for maintaining public areas.

SUMMARY: One man, Joshua Bennet, was killed in a shooting at a Jackson gas station. The incident occurred at a Shell gas station on West Northside Drive on May 17. An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting, but has not been identified. Detective Tommie Brown confirmed the arrest. The Jackson Police Department and Crime Stoppers are seeking additional information from the public regarding the incident.
