Accident on North Hills Street
SUMMARY: Severe storms are expected Thursday night into Friday, with temperatures in the low 70s. Earlier today, a two-car collision on North Hills and 24th Street forced MPD to temporarily shut down the westbound lane until the road could be cleared. A metro ambulance arrived on the scene and transported a single passenger to receive medical attention. Roads are expected to be affected by the storms on Friday as well.

Northwest Rankin has a new boys basketball head coach
SUMMARY: Northwest Rankin High School has hired former Provine head coach, Sir Dante Washington, to lead their boys basketball program. Washington led Provine to two state semifinals in his 11 years as head coach. He brings his competitive style of play and work ethic to NWR, emphasizing the importance of hard work and daily grind. Washington replaces Josh Luckett, who is now at Clinton High School. The two coaches are good friends and will compete against each other in the upcoming season. Washington's appointment signals a new era for NWR basketball, with a focus on competitiveness and hard work.
Longtime Provine basketball coach Sirdonta Washington is now at Northwest Rankin as he takes over the Cougars boys basketball program.

Hub City announces $2.2 M grant for next phase of Gordon's creek project
SUMMARY: Gordon's Creek in Hattisburg is set to undergo significant improvements to boost ecotourism with a grant of over $2 million from the Mississippi outdoor stewardship trust fund. The project will include an 8ft pathway and pedestrian bridge connecting the Gordon's Creek linear trail with other nearby parks, an outdoor classroom, and picturesque views of the Leaf River. The goal is to change the perception of Gordon's Creek and the Leaf River from merely bodies of water to valuable assets that attract more visitors. Hattisburg's project received the most funding in this round of grants, with the hope for construction to begin next year.
Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker announced a significant grant from the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund (MOSTF).

Lamar County School District bond referendum vote Tuesday
SUMMARY: Tomorrow, residents in Lamar County will have the chance to vote for or against a $117 million bond issue for the school district.
