Will the Mississippi Medicaid stalemate end?
SUMMARY: Negotiations are ongoing at the State Capitol over Medicaid expansion in Mississippi. The House is willing to compromise on the number of people covered but wants to secure federal matching dollars. Democrats are pushing for more federal funds to benefit struggling state hospitals. The Senate is hesitant to move on a plan covering only 40,000 people who must prove they work 30 hours a week. Governor Tate Reeves remains opposed to Medicaid expansion. There is pressure to pass a measure that could override a potential veto before the session ends on May 5th, as Mississippi is one of the few states that has not expanded Medicaid.
