Early voting proposed bill
SUMMARY: Middleton's sentencing will be held later today, potentially affecting Mississippians' ability to head to the polls. The Senate recently passed a bill that would allow in-person voting 15 days before an election, a change from the current system in Mississippi. Local officials, like Marion County Circuit Clerk Janette Nolan, express concerns about staffing if the bill becomes law. Those in support, such as Columbia resident John Hailes, see the bill as an opportunity to increase voter turnout. As of now, the bill has yet to be approved or denied by the House of Representatives, with potential implications for upcoming elections.
The bill would do away with in-person absentee voting, but wouldn't affect mail-in absentee voting.
