Repair talks for Hinds County Courthouse delayed until Wednesday
SUMMARY: District 2, 3, and 5 supervisors were absent from the monthly meeting due to various reasons. There have been ongoing discussions about updating the historic courthouse, which is in need of repairs, including ceiling and wall damage, water leakage, and other issues. The Board of Supervisors is working to secure funding for the updates and is still in negotiations with the State Department of Archives and History. The President, Robert Graham, aims to move forward with the repairs and hopes to secure enough funding for the courthouse updates. The Board of Supervisors plans to reconvene tomorrow morning to continue discussions.

MSU president shares details on campus construction
SUMMARY: Mississippi State University's campus is bustling with construction projects during the student summer break, focusing on growth and facility upgrades. 2nd annual Juneteenth festival celebrates freedom in Calhoun City
SUMMARY: Calhoun City celebrated Black culture, food, and business as part of its Juneteenth events, featuring a BBQ cookoff and family fun activities. This is the city's second time hosting the celebration. The Juneteenth Committee Vice President emphasized the importance of community unity and celebrating freedom from various forms of bondage, both spiritual and natural. The event saw a larger turnout compared to the previous year, with hopes for even greater participation in the future. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were freed, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and was made a federal holiday in 2021.
