FDA expands use of asthma drug to treat severe food allergies

SUMMARY: The FDA has approved Xolair, an injectable medication that reduces allergic reactions in people with food allergies, asthma, and nasal polyps. This provides relief for certain adults and over the age of one. However, access to the medication could with a steep price tag, with insurance generally covering the cost but the drug costing $3,000 to $5,000 per month for those without insurance. Some may be able to the medication at home, but most will need to get it in a doctor’s office due to the risk of anaphylaxis. The main concern is whether insurers will the cost of the expensive drug.

WTVA’s Fall Senior Health Fair sees big turnout

Since its inception in 2016, the fair has expanded significantly, highlighting the ongoing commitment to supporting senior health and well-being in the community.
