Jackson Mississippi High School students gather to mark the anniversary of the water crisis

SUMMARY: Jackson, Mississippi high school students, along with community members and elected leaders, gathered at Dawson Elementary School to mark the anniversary of the Jackson Water Crisis. Events included the burial of a time capsule filled with vision boards, letters, and videos with hopes and dreams for a better Jackson. One 10th grade student expressed a hope to come back in 10 years to dig up the box and see their dreams accomplished. The Water Crisis began in August 2023 when the Pearl River flooded due to severe storms, causing the main water treatment plant in the city to fail.

The students participated in multiple events including the burial of a time capsule.
