Jackson councilman pursues public safety proposal
SUMMARY: Councilman Kenneth Stokes is concerned about the lack of enforcement regarding “no weapons allowed” signs in businesses in Jackson. He claims that stores are ignoring the signs and individuals are bringing assault rifles into establishments. Stokes believes that while they cannot regulate guns, they can enforce the ordinance that prohibits entering businesses with weapons. He wants to ensure that children and mothers feel safe when going to stores or gas stations. Pastor CJ Bolton explains that he placed “no weapons allowed” signs around his church as a preventive measure to avoid potentially dangerous situations.
