State Health Department investigating after Baptist Hospital power outage
SUMMARY: David Blackwell, whose wife is a patient at Baptist Hospital, recounts a stressful power outage that occurred early Monday morning. After the outage started at 2:22 AM, the hospital's backup generators failed to activate promptly, raising concerns as the hospital went dark. Blackwell's wife's pneumatic bed deflated, causing anxiety. Entergy, the power company, and witnesses confirm the outage lasted until 4:24 AM. Hospital staff, using cellphone lights, managed patient care through the blackout. Baptist Hospital later stated that patient care remained uninterrupted during the transition between power sources, though the actual outage lasted longer than their initial claim of an hour.
