West Harrison rated top high school in state test scores
SUMMARY: West Harrison High School has been ranked No.1 in the state for a second year, based on state tests from the last school year. This ranking places South Mississippi with five of the top ten high schools in the state. From 16 districts in South Mississippi, 14 earned A-grades from the state, with Ocean Springs School District taking the top spot. The Department of Education has acknowledged an improvement in overall grades compared to last year, with 81% of schools and 87% of districts rating a C or higher. The state's grading system is based on various criteria, including student proficiency, growth rates, and graduation rate.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
