A Tupelo church is fostering connections among mission groups and locals

SUMMARY: Harrisburg Baptist Church in , Mississippi hosted its first-ever “CONNECT” Conference, bringing together mission groups and locals. The conference provided an for participants to hear about the work being done by missionaries from various at local, , national, and international levels. One of the mission groups represented was the Delta Streets Academy, which aims to local youth with a private Christian education. T. Mac of Delta Streets Academy explained that their focus on young helps improve the community by reducing gun violence and producing responsible adults. Bond revoked for Mississippi woman accused of unnatural intercourse with dog

SUMMARY: Denise Frazier, a Purvis woman, had her bond revoked for charges of unnatural intercourse with a dog in Jones County. She was initially held in Forrest County Jail and was indicted by a grand jury in May 2014. Frazier violated her bond conditions from a prior arrest in April 2013 for unnatural intercourse and cruelty towards an animal. A judge had ordered her to have no contact with animals during the case, but she violated this order in a . Frazier is currently being held in Jones County for these offenses.

75% of Mississippi third graders pass reading test in 2024

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Education announced that 75.7% of third graders passed the initial administration of the reading assessment for the 2023-24 school year. This percentage is similar to the pass rate for the previous year and higher than the rate before the pandemic. who do not pass the initial test have up to two more attempts to retest. The MDE is working to instruction and resources aligned with the Science of Reading. Some students may qualify for exemptions to be promoted to fourth grade despite not passing the assessment.

Gulfport teen charged with 2 counts of capital murder

One victim, Temi Lawal, was found dead at the scene, while another victim, Lorenzo , died from his injuries at the hospital. Police determined that an armed robbery planned by Corley, Lawal, and Stennis led to the deaths of the victims. Corley was denied bond and booked into the Adult Detention Center.
