MSU grant project brings agricultural literacy to Mississippi classrooms

SUMMARY: Mississippi has received a $485,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) for a four-year titled Agricultural Science Professional (ACRE 2.0). The program aims to aid K-12 teachers in introducing agricultural science into existing school curricula to highlight agricultural career possibilities. The program also provides participating teachers with financial assistance for sessions and offers instructional materials for ACRE 2.0 lesson programs throughout the academic year.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Force cadets from the of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
