‘Before I Was Black’: Local author’s new book celebrates journey of self-acceptance

SUMMARY: A Columbia native shares her story of self-acceptance after living through segregation, experiencing various career changes, and overcoming addiction. She decided to write a book when discussing the controversial topic of triggered an array of emotions for her. Now, in her book “Before I Was Black,” she transcribes those feelings into words, reflecting on the times when they were to stop the teaching of racism and the movement. She believes that history should not be swept under the rug as though it never happened.

Dorothy Bee Williams shares her story of growing up in the middle of the civil rights movement and how she learned to love herself.

Jackson fire station demolished

Houston educator receives VFW top award

Fallen tree injures one during storm in Lawrence County
