SUMMARY: The town of Ackerman in Mississippi was hit with severe flooding on July 13 due to heavy rain. Residents of the Choctaw Plaza Apartments had to be evacuated to a local community center until they could return home. The police chief, Tim Cook, said that the drains were clean, but there was too much water and not enough space for it to go. This was the worst flooding Cook had ever seen, with almost every resident of the apartments needing to be evacuated. Those wanting to help can contact the Choctaw County EMA Director.

SHS seniors take final stroll through elementary school halls

SUMMARY: The senior class at Starkville High School participated in an annual “Senior Walk” where they visited all schools in the district to see former teachers and receive well wishes from current students. They were cheered on by students as they walked through the halls, taking pictures along the way. This stop was at Henderson Ward Stewart, where students in grades two to four showed their support.
