Mississippi to begin allowing religious exemptions for childhood vaccinations

SUMMARY: Mississippi will now allow religious exemptions for school vaccinations, a federal judge's ruling in favor of who claimed their religious views prevented them from complying with vaccination requirements. The Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) will comply with the ruling, although the state opposes it. MSDH still vaccinating children to prevent the spread of diseases. Prior to the ruling, Mississippi only medical exemptions for certain vaccines and did not require vaccinations. With the change, the only states without religious or personal belief exemptions are California, Connecticut, Maine, New York, and Virginia.

MEMA: 1 dead in Wilkinson County after severe weather

SUMMARY: Severe weather in Mississippi on May 12-13 caused one fatality and property , according to the Agency (). Patricia Williamson, 68, from Sicily Island, LA, died when the vehicle she was in hit a tree in Wilkinson County. Another individual was in Lawrence County. Damages were reported in (5 homes), Lincoln (3 homes), and Smith (1 home, 5 businesses) Counties. With roads still blocked by fallen trees, MEMA advises to submit insurance claims and damage through their online tool. More updates on assessments are expected as counties continue their evaluations.
