Over $200K worth of stolen farm equipment recovered in Rankin County
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau (MALTB) has recovered multiple stolen items, including agricultural equipment, in Rankin County. MALTB assisted in the investigation of a stolen skid steer in Jackson, which led them to Rankin County where they recovered the stolen item and other equipment. In total, over $198,000 worth of equipment was recovered. The investigation involved collaboration between several law enforcement agencies. MALTB Director Dean Barnard commended the investigators and law enforcement agencies involved. The investigation is still ongoing.

Kentucky man on the run after being found guilty of sexually assaulting Mississippi child
SUMMARY: A Kentucky man, Jimmy Joe Davis, 54, found guilty of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in Mississippi, is now on the run. Davis left the court Thursday night before the jury, deliberating his case, returned a guilty verdict. During the three-day trial, evidence revealed Davis had sexually abused the girl multiple times while living with a woman and her children in Pass Christian. The child disclosed the abuse during a CPS home visit and in a forensic interview. Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest, and sentencing will proceed once he is apprehended. Davis could face a life sentence plus 15 years.

Former national coach of the year Lance Pogue hired by Columbia High School
SUMMARY: Lance Pogue, a nationally acclaimed high school football coach who led South Panola to a national championship in 2010, has been named the head coach and athletic director at Columbia High School. Columbia, a 4A school, had a successful 14-1 record in 2023 but lost in the state championship game. Pogue, who has a career record of 238-67 over 23 seasons, replaces Chip Bilderback, who resigned to support his wife's coaching career. Pogue's career includes five state championships and roles at various high schools and colleges, making him a highly experienced addition to Columbia's athletic program.

MHP: 4 deaths, 135 crashes reported over Memorial Day enforcement period
SUMMARY: During the Memorial Day travel period in Mississippi, four people died in 135 crashes. The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 7,026 citations, arrested 118 for impaired driving, and cited 864 for seatbelt violations over the four-day stretch. This year's numbers show nearly 2,000 fewer citations and one less fatal wreck compared to the previous year. Fatal crashes occurred in Benton, Tunica, Itawamba, and Harrison counties. Victims included Dwight Holcomb in Benton, Jhajuan Milan in Tunica, and Kenneth Cook in Itawamba. Troopers noted a significant reduction in overall citations and fatal crashes this year.
