Council transfers control of Jackson sewer to third-party water manager
SUMMARY: The Jackson City Council has voted to transfer control of the city's sewer system to a third-party manager, Ted Henifin. Henifin has been managing the city's water infrastructure for the past six months since the collapse of a water treatment plant. The council voted 6-1 in favor of handing authority over the sewer system to Henifin. However, concerns were raised about raising rates for residents to improve the sewer system. Currently, there are over 200 active sanitary sewer overflows in the city, causing untreated wastewater to flow into the environment. The council will need approval from a U.S. District Court Judge before Henifin can start work.
