Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane season kicks off with disturbance organizing ‘close to home’ in Gulf
SUMMARY: The 2023 Atlantic hurricane season has officially begun, with the first disturbance already being tracked in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a “near-normal” season, with between 12 and 17 total named storms, five to nine of which will be hurricanes, and one to four major hurricanes.
