Mississippi Public Safety Summit announced for May 8-10

As continues to be an issue across the Magnolia State, the inaugural Mississippi Public Safety Summit has been announced for May 8-10.

The summit, which will be held at The Refuge in Flowood, will be hosted by Governor Tate Reeves, Lynn Fitch, and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. The goal of the is for enforcement , prosecutors, and first responders to work together to find solutions to the 's crime.

“Communication amongst public safety is a crucial component of ensuring safety to their communities,” Tindell said. “The Department of Public Safety is proud to announce this summit and bring public safety leaders from across the state together to discuss topics that will in turn improve their communities and enhance their public safety in their counties and municipalities.”

3rd-grade state reading assessment passing numbers hold steady

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Education reported that 75.7% of third graders passed the reading assessment on the first try, a slight decrease from the previous year's 76.3% pass rate. In the Monroe County School District, 92.4% of third graders passed on the first attempt, the second highest percentage in the state, while the Baldwyn School District had the lowest pass rate at 45.8%. who did not pass were given a second test in February, with a second retest for June. Mississippi inmate accused of identity theft, wire fraud

Kenjarell from was served with a 59 count indictment related to identity , fraudulent representation, and wire fraud.
