Time running short for Mississippi Medicaid expansion deal
SUMMARY: The 2024 legislative session is coming to a close, with state lawmakers focusing on negotiations around Medicaid expansion. The main sticking point is the work requirement, with the House proposing an 80-hour monthly requirement while the Senate wants 120 hours. The House compromise covers up to 138% of the federal poverty level and includes language mandating a reapplication for work requirements once approved by the federal government. The Senate has not included this language, leading to ongoing debates between House and Senate negotiators. The session is set to end with an 8:00 PM deadline for filing conference reports.

One juror had a personal connection to a victim of a drunk driving incident, potentially affecting her ability to be impartial. The crash resulted in the death of a mother and her child, with two other children severely injured. The previous trial ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury. Over a dozen witnesses are expected to testify in the upcoming trial.
